Hello, my names Nick, which obviously is on my profile as well ha ha. I live right outside San Antonio, Texas in Cibolo. If you want to chat or meet for a drink or something
I joined the Army in 2002 at the age of 19 for a three-year commitment. I was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado with Third Armored Calvary Regiment Grim Troup. My first deployment as a scout was in March of 2003 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom One. My unit returned to Fort Carson in April 2004 to prepare for Operation Iraqi Freedom Three. There was a
stop loss enforced in December 2004 and my commitment was extended to June 2006. I returned with my unit to Iraq in March 2005. It was seven weeks into my deployment when I was injured by an improvised explosive device on April 28th. I was initially presumed dead but was found under the striker by a fellow soldier. A Navy medic inserted a trachea on site, and I was medevac'd to Landstuhl, Germany. I spent several days in a medically induced coma waiting to stabilize for transport back to the United States. I woke in Walter Reed Army Medical Center a couple of weeks later. My injuries consisted of a broken jaw in four places, missing teeth, traumatic brain injury, fractured left fibula, and damage to left femoral artery, right knee ligament damage, and a right leg four compartment fasciotomy which resulted in a right leg above the knee amputation. I spent eighteen months in Washington DC at Walter Reed for habilitation. In November 2006, after I regained the ability to walk using a prosthetic, I was sent to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas for maxillofacial surgery. I Medically retired from the Army in January 2009 and remained in San Antonio.
